The next available class is Sunday, January 21, 2018, 9:30-11:30 AM Pacific time.
Ann Leckie, author of the Ancillary trilogy, has won the Hugo, Nebula, BSFA, Arthur C. Clarke, and Locus awards for her space opera series. In this class, Ann talks about space opera: its characteristics, how to handle them, and the process of writing not just a single novel but a series, while we provide writing exercises to take away and use to apply what Ann has told you. Ann is a lively and congenial teacher, funny without being snarky, and above all encouraging and inspiring. Ann also has limited time, and I don’t know when she’ll be able to teach this again, so this class is highly recommended for multiple reasons.
Classes are taught online via Google hangouts and require reliable Internet connection, although in the past participants have logged on from coffee shops, cafes, and even an airplane; a webcam is suggested but not required.
