Instructor: Carrie Vaughn
The next class is Saturday, June 15, 9:30-11:30 AM Pacific time.
Superheroes are everywhere, bursting from their comic book origins to dominate movies, TV, and even novels. Have an idea for a superhero story of your own? We’ll talk about developing superpowered characters, superheroic worldbuilding, and how to bring it all together into a story that conveys the adventure, heroism (or anti-heroism), action, and emotion we love about these modern mythologies.
Carrie Vaughn is well acquainted with the worlds of superheroes. She’s the author of the critically acclaimed duology After the Golden Age and Dreams of the Golden Age, about Celia West, the daughter of superheroes who struggles with her parents’ legacy. She’s also a contributor to Wild Cards, the series of shared world anthologies about an alternate world filled with superheroes, edited by George R.R. Martin, including writing new stories for reissues of the early volumes in the series. She’s been a fan of superheroes since the Lynda Carter Wonder Woman TV series, and is currently in love with the MCU on the big screen and Legion on TV. In all, she’s the author of more than twenty novels and a hundred short stories. Learn more about her and her work at www.carrievaughn.com.
Live classes are taught online, are limited to 15 participants, and require reliable Internet connection, although in the past participants have logged on from coffee shops, cafes, and even an airplane. A webcam is strongly suggested but not required. If there is an on-demand version of the class, you will be provided with a free coupon for it, so you have access to those notes.
Cost is $99 ($79 for Patreon supporters and former students, which includes classes/workshops with me in other venues, such as conference or convention workshops and mentoring sessions).

Free scholarships: If you cannot afford a class but really want to take one, apply for a Plunkett Scholarship. Each class has three slots reserved for such students, and the sole criteria is only that you can’t currently afford the class. To apply for a Plunkett, which covers the entire cost, mail me and tell me why you want to take the class in 100 words or less. QUILTBAG and PoC candidates are especially encouraged to apply. The Plunkett Scholarships are named for Edward Plunkett, who wrote as Lord Dunsany. Scholarships are given out on a rolling basis; I suggest getting them in sooner rather than later. You may apply for multiple classes.
